Webb Air Force Base - Major, undergraduate pilot training facility for the Air Force

Webb Air Force Base named Big Spring Air Force Base was a United States Air Force facility. Webb AFB was a major, undergraduate pilot training facility for the Air Force, was turned over to the General Services Agency for disposal. The facility was used by the United States Army Air Forces as Big Spring Army Air Field, was brought into service as a primary training installation. The HTG was replaced on 1 May by the 2509th 1944 AAF base Unit. The AAFBU managed training, all ground support units. Practice bombs had been released on nearby bombing ranges. The airfield was reactivated as Big Spring Air Force Base on 1 October. Command was to activate the able base until 1 January. Pilot training program meant the consolidation of preflight, primary, basic instruction by 1960. US government escalated American, military involvement in Vietnam in 1965. Air Training Command reduced UPT in July, inactivated the 78th Flying Training Wing at Webb AFB.
