Mount Tom (California) - Large, prominent peak near the city

Mount Tom is a large, prominent peak near the city. The mountain is in the John Muir Wilderness, is named for Thomas Clark. Tom is over a little 4,000 feet, is for 13,658 10,000 14,000 feet of relief, is about 10 miles outside Bishop and was named after Thomas Clark. Horton Lake hikers head up the southern ridge of Mount Tom. The trail was used to pack in the mining paraphenalia. Road follows Horton Creek on the south side, is from the recognizable Owens Valley.
