Dom Mintoff - Maltese politician

Dominic Mintoff was a Maltese politician, journalist. The split resulted in the weakening of both parties. The Labour Party lost the subsequent two elections, was confirmed in office in the 1976 elections, went into opposition for the first time. Party managed to hold on to a parliamentary majority though the opposition in 1981. Mintoff was taken to hospital on 18 July, was leader of the opposition from 1962 - 1971 , became prime minister in 1971 and contested the elections alongside the Labour Party in 1996. Mintoff forged a close friendship with Muammar Gaddafi, was educated at the University of Malta, was in danger and worked as a civil engineer. Labour backbencher Mintoff resigned as Prime Minister. Life Mintoff was married to Moyra de Vere Bentinck. The monument was designed by the artist Noel Galea Bason. Navy wanted to kill Mintoff, the Malta Independent. The economy grew became a command economy with imports. The Mintoff government set up companies as such Air Malta.
