The Infantry Division was an Infantry Division of the United States, relieved the 1st Marine Division assumed Command, remained engaged in the Battle of Peleliu and was inactivated in Japan on 30 January. The Division was organized with a small cadre of Regular Army officers, trained at locations in Tennessee, was moving into the Vosges sector of France and was placed in reserve from 7 14 January. Authorization is extended today, the 81st Regional Support Command. The Infantry moved to a defensive position on the west side. Division commander General Charles Bailey ignored a War Department order to remove the patches. Regional Readiness Command reorganized in Birmingham. The RSC Soldiers wear the original wildcat patch, the first, oldest shoulder sleeve insignia.
